Jane Thorne

Jane currently works from Dornwell Studios as a painter and published illustrator.

Since the final year of my Bachelor of Visual Arts at Manukau Institute of Technology in 1998 where I was influenced by several of my peers and tutors including Martin Ball and Frances Hansen, I have exhibited with many Auckland galleries, including: SOCA, Uxbridge, McPherson Gallery and Orex Gallery.  I am also represented by Imitate Gallery in Manchester, UK.

Last year I focussed on creating small works of insect studies leading towards larger compositions being created this year and have also undertaken a new project consisting of a series of long horizontal paintings incorporating rows of beetles in a visual ode to Charles Darwin.

Insects are the dominant feature in most of my paintings as I find them endlessly fascinating with their unique shapes and colours.  I am influenced by earlier years studying museology, collectors and evolutionists.
