Wunderruma, a large scale exhibition of contemporary New Zealand jewellery is on now at Auckland Art Gallery. This show, which has travelled from Munich, via the Dowse Art Museum in Wellington, includes work by Dornwell Studio jeweller Raewyn Walsh. Raewyn and veteran jeweller Alan Preston gave a lively presentation at the gallery on Sunday, discussing their own practise and some of the history of contemporary jewellery in New Zealand. An interview with Raewyn at her workspace in Dornwell.
Northart Gallery’s Pocket Edition Exhibition closes this Sunday, August 2, with a “Meet the Artists” gathering from 3pm. If you haven’t seen this show, pop along and say hi. Invited artists, including Dornwell Studio’s Jo Dalgety and Susan Thomas, were asked to complete 10 postcard sized works. The resulting exhibition shows just how much art you can fit on a tiny piece of paper. It’s well worth a look and the art is affordable.
