Susan Thomas paints abstracts based on the fragility, chaos but ultimate joy of humanity. Her palette is gentle and she is interested in mark-making and the surface, often employing delicate pencil incorporated into the acrylic works.
Susan Thomas is an Auckland-based painter. She has works in the collections of the The James Wallace Arts Trust and corporations including ANZ Bank, NZ Wool Board and Caltex Oil. She has exhibited widely and was a finalist in the Wallace Art Awards.
“In my practise I explore themes surrounding life and relationships. I am interested in life experiences and how they shape us. How randomness and order sit together. How, although things are ever-changing, there are elements of repetition and overlay.”
She is currently exploring themes relating to shelter, metaphorical and physical.
